Antique Early Victorian Old Mine Cut Diamond Ring

There are so many reasons we love the early old mine cut diamonds - their chunky, cut by hand individual shapes are a real mastery. No other stone will sparkle the same opulent, extravagant way. It must be the care, love and the supreme skill that went into making them so...they will be their best in any light. They are just as gorgeous in full sunshine and low daylight as they are by the candlelight. 

This stunning ring hails from the Continental Europe from around 1840, just the end of the Georgian and on the cusp of the Victorian era. And so these early 19th century stones have been set in our favourite, silver pinch colet settings with open backs. This is typical of the 1840's ring settings and means that the light from underneath of the stones fires them up into firework of brilliance and there is no foiling needed, meaning they are good to get wet without any damage to the ring. The ring has a new, 9 karat rose gold shank which is shaped as it would have been originally. We are pleased it is now restored to its original charm. 

Those gorgeous diamonds are estimated to weigh a minimum of 1.57 carats in total; the larger ones are 0.65 and 0.78 carats and the smaller ones in the shoulders are around 0.07 carats each. They look brilliantly white and uniform in colour when worn as you see in our photos. They are H-I colour with one of the small diamonds in the shoulders being L-M colour. The top of the ring side to side, from the split in the shoulders measures 15.96 mm and 11.38 mm north to south. It sits lovely and low, just 4.23 mm off the top of your finger. It is size US 5 1/8 or UK K and easily re-sizeable up or down. It is in lovely antique condition.
