Antique Indian Mughal Diamond Enamel Heart Pendant Charm Dangler

Our little antique Indian Mughal double sided gem is full of beauty and wonder in perfect miniature !

Mughal Dynasty ruled India from 1526 until 1857. The times of expansion of the Mughal Empire both in lands, riches and influence brought with it such wonders of art and architecture as Taj Mahal, fabulous miniature paintings and the richest, most opulent of jewels.

Our double sided, richly decorated heart pendant was made around 1840-1850. We had it professionally tested as we did not want to acid test it, not to disturb the enamel. It is testing as 18-22 karat gold. 

One side of the heart features fine floral enamel decorations in red, green and white, while the other is set with a heart shaped early rose cut diamond. Both sides of the pendant are equally gorgeous and can be worn whichever side you prefer to choose. The sides are also enamelled on the side. The bale of the pendant was missing and some added a 9 karat yellow gold bale to match the pendant in colour and style.

The heart itself is 5.05 mm thick and measures 6.8 mm north to south and 6.6 mm side to side. The length of heart with the bale is 13.9 mm and it weighs 0.9 grams. There is a little bit of faint nibbling to the enamel on the sides of the pendant, which is expected in the pendant of this age and it is negligible . The enamel is perfectly stable. We think that sometimes it is more fitting to leave an old gem as is, the little faults a testament to its rich history and life lived. More importantly, the enamel on the front of the pendant is in excellent antique condition as is the pendant overall.
