Antique Rose Cut Diamond Dormeuse Earrings Prague Austro Hungarian Empire

Those exquisite antique dormeuse beauties are beyond chic!! Perfect for the every day ( living one's best life and all that :) or absolutely fabulous for your elegant evenings out when you want to look and feel your sassiest ! 

The earrings date from around 1890-1900. They feature hallmarks for Austro-Hungarian Empire, Prague, used from 1872-1922. They are hand crafted in 14 karat mellow yellow gold with the diamond settings in silver. The earrings are set with the loveliest oval rose cut diamonds, superbly cut, so sparkly and bright ! They are estimated to weigh 1.0 carat together and be I-J colour. They both have one area of "nibbling" - very small natural inclusions on the very edge of the stone, obscured by the settings and one has a tiny internal natural inclusion you can only spot those with a strong jeweller's loupe. This is often seen with early diamonds, and these pre-date the earrings to the earlier part of the 19th century. The diamond's fantastic fire, spark and depth are emphasised by the foil setting in gorgeous closed back, domed colets. 

We love their silver pronged settings so much, they make the diamonds look like radiating stars ! Each setting is 10.6 mm long and 9.6 mm wide. The total length of the earrings from the top of the wire is 18.2 mm. They weigh 3.7 grams together, superbly comfortable to wear. They feature their original, hinged lever back ear fastenings, loved and widely used in Europe at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. They followed up and improved on the French dormeuse earring fittings for the comfort and security of wear. They are stamped "Patent". The earring's antique condition is lovely, with just the slightest and highly desired amount of wear that we adore and call "kissed by time" !! It is that special look of an antique piece of jewellery, the patina, a gentle layer of being loved for a long time!
