Antique Signed Waltham & Blank 18K Gold Buckle Pendant Charm
Well, that is unusual and just totally cool!! Just the thing when you want chic and unique !
We gave a new lease of stylish life to an 18K gold buckle of a lovely quality by turning it into a pendant ! The buckle is hallmarked 18K for 18 karat gold and is signed by Whiteside & Blank. This company was founded by Henry Blank in the 1890's and continued until after the Second World War. Henry Blank was an extremely interesting, dynamic and creative persona, he luckily survived the Titanic, manufactured for Tiffany & Co and Neiman Marcus among others and brought the German jewellery manufacturing innovations over to the USA. His company was the first to popularise a wrist watch idea - remember, watch meant a pocket watch in Victorian times ! - his company first started to make wristwatches with straps (and buckles) after 1906.
This gorgeous, elegant buckle most likely belonged to a man's watch. It is made in lovely, rich yellow 18 karat gold and measures 18.48 by 22.33 mm. The bale added in order to make it a pendant is in matching yellow 9 karat gold, making the pendant 26.51 mm long. It weighs 3.9 grams and is in great antique condition. If you would rather have it as a buckle, all that needs to be done is for a jeweller to take off the bale and polish the top. But we do think this buckle pendant looks fantastic and Mr Blank would approve, after all he loved innovations !
We love .... the fantastic, fine quality of Mr Blank's buckle and we adore it as a unique pendant even more !!
