Antique Victorian 18 carat gold & natural split pearl horseshoe #ERAcharm
Horseshoes have been a symbol of good luck for centuries. Blacksmiths were thought to have special powers because they worked with fire and iron, a magical combination of two very powerful elements. We hang horseshoes over our doors for good luck, wear them as good luck talismans and also to express our love for anything horsey.
Our lovely Miss Horseshoe here is an English Victorian beauty, studded elegantly with the most delicious natural split pearls. They are gorgeous - plump and lustrous, the colour of antique white silk that has acquired the hint of moonlit ivory over time. They are a lovely size too, the largest one has a 3.75 mm diameter, the smallest 1.87 mm. They are all original and in stunning condition. She was originally a pin, made around 1880-1890. She is fashioned in 18 carat buttery yellow gold, hallmarked with "18". We had her pin fitting converted to a bale so she has all her original components and can now be enjoyed as a pendant. The horseshoe itself measures 19.62 by 18.22 mm and she is 27 mm long including the bale. Hanging on a diagonal, with 18.38 mm width in this position. She is in wonderful antique condition.
Pearls are the June birthstone and a 30th Wedding Anniversary gift. Studded with those gorgeous pearls she would make a wonderful "something old" on your wedding day, as pearls in Victorian era were, and traditionally still are, the most popular wedding gem. With the most beautiful good luck wishes to boot!
