Vintage Polish 14K Rose Gold Snake Ring

We fell in love with this vintage Polish rose gold ring. So stylish and elegant, so retro, so different - the rose gold colour is delicious and the handsome, spirited snake is smiling - what is not to love ?? !

This smiling snake is part of an iconic Warmet collection, a Polish company of the communist era Poland, called PRL - Polish People's Republic. Warmet was created in 1965 and ceased production of their much loved lines of jewellery in the 1990's. Due to the scarcity of gold under the communist rule they mostly produced silver jewellery, with small amount of gold pieces, so these are rather special and very collectible now. 

This lovely snake is from a "viper" line. It is cleverly styled as a one size fits all ring, but his size is set to US 5 7/8 or UK L 1/2. It can be sized a few sizes up or down by "stretching" and re-setting the size to yours by a jeweller. The snakes body has scale decorations all the way around and his face features a lovely detail, the cheeky smile, and his snaky tongue too ! He is hallmarked with a Polish mark for 14 karat gold used between 1963-1986 and assayed in Warsaw. The Warmet maker's mark on the inside of the shank indicates that he was made in the main, Warsaw division of Warmet. The front of the ring, from the snake's head to tail measures 13.77 mm side to side and 15.42 mm top to bottom- those measurements will change slightly if the ring is sized. The rounded band at the back is 2.73 mm wide. The ring weighs 4.92 grams and is in excellent vintage condition. 

We adore ..... this vintage icon of Mid Century Poland. This ring looks fantastic worn by itself, is a genius stacker and what a fab wedding band with a difference ! After all snakes are for eternity. They symbolise fertility and a creative life force, rebirth, transformation and immortality.
